Mobile phone enthusiasts and tech geeks from all over gathered to see the latest and the hottest in the world of mobile phones and telecommunications. Of course, it was not surprising to see plenty of impressive hardware and new devices at the MWC. Microsoft, Sony Ericsson and plenty of other developers, operators and manufacturers showed off their latest devices and software.
Among these is Korean mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung. Currently holding third place in the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers, they have been making plenty of profits in the low to mid range mobile phone market. Often leaving the smaller high end market to their competitors (Samsung does have high end phones such as the Galaxy and Omnia).
Last year, Samsung announced that they are working on a new open source platform for mobile phones, the Bada. In December, they revealed the OS to developers in a bid to get support and encourage the development of Bada applications. Now, they are finally revealing the very first smart phone that uses the Bada OS.
The S8500 Wave is Samsung’s first attempt at a Bada phone and from the looks of it, they are doing pretty well. The device comes with a 3.3 inch super AMOLED touch screen (which promises to be brighter and clearer than the normal AMOLED variety) and a 5 mega pixel camera with 720p HD video recording.
The device is naturally able to playback HD video formats. The smart phone runs on a sweet 1GHz processor (proprietary) and is expected to be able to plenty resource heavy apps as well as multi tasking.
